New Things ✨
- Shift has been updated to automatically appear at the forefront of your computer screen upon waking your device from sleep mode. This enhancement significantly boosts accessibility, making Shift readily available for immediate use. This streamlines your workflow by reducing the time spent navigating through many applications.
Bugs Fixed 🐛🔨
- We observed that attempting to open a single bookmark in a new tab from Shift was not functioning properly, and opening multiple bookmarks from bookmark folders was causing Shift to crash. These issues have now been resolved, allowing you to seamlessly open bookmarks in new tabs without any hassle.
- We identified an issue where the print preview would not load, preventing users from printing directly from the Quick Settings or using the Ctrl + P shortcut within Shift. This problem has been resolved! Users can now effortlessly print ensuring important documents are readily available in physical form whenever necessary.
- We addressed a problem where Shift, when set as the default browser, wouldn't come to the forefront upon clicking a link intended to open in the default browser. This issue has been resolved. Now, when clicking on links that open in your default browser, Shift will automatically appear at the forefront, streamlining your browsing experience by making it straightforward to access the link you've just selected.
- We discovered an inconvenience where clicking "Add Apps" in Quick Settings didn't automatically focus on the search field in the app directory, requiring an additional step to begin searching for apps. This has been rectified! Now, when you click "Add App," it directly opens the apps directory with the search field already focused. Simply start typing to quickly find and add the app you're looking for.
- We observed an issue where utilizing the keyboard shortcut to open a new tab (Ctrl+T) resulted in the new tab inheriting the URL of the previously opened webpage, essentially duplicating the previous tab. This has been corrected. Now, employing the keyboard shortcut opens a new tab with an empty omnibox, as originally intended. This ensures that the shortcut opens a fresh New Tab Page, allowing users to immediately search for their desired content.
- We addressed a problem where, if Shift was set as the default browser and closed, clicking on a link from another application would only launch Shift without navigating to the specified link. Additionally, attempting to click the link a second time after Shift had opened would cause the application to crash. This issue has been resolved. Now, when you open links from other applications with Shift closed, Shift will launch and correctly load the intended link.
Other Notable Updates 👀
- We noticed that the initial launch of the Recipes App was experiencing slow loading times. This issue has now been addressed. Upon downloading the Recipes App, Shift will now open the app with minimal delay, allowing you to enjoy the app smoothly and effortlessly.
- We discovered that the automatic update feature in Shift was not waiting for users to close the application before initiating updates, leading to forced closures of Shift when updates were available. This was far from ideal, as users could be in the midst of important tasks and risk losing their data. We’ve fixed this! Shift will now wait for users to manually close the application before proceeding with any updates, thereby enhancing the user experience by ensuring that work is not unexpectedly interrupted.
- We observed an issue in Shift where the navigation buttons remained visually active even when there was no browsing history available. To address this, we have implemented a change to gray out the Back and Forward buttons whenever there are no pages to navigate to. This adjustment allows users to instantly recognize when they've reached the end of their browsing history, saving time and clarifying whether the navigation buttons are functional at a given moment.
