How can we support you?

Shift 118.9.0 | Released 2024-02-29

  • Updated

New Things ✨

  • We noticed that some key configuration settings for your browser were not accessible in Shift’s Settings for users. Therefore, we’ve added toggles to the System Settings page that will let you turn on and off the following configurations for your browser: Run in Background, Open on Unlock, and Open on Sign in. You can now personalize your browser configuration using the toggles.

Bugs Fixed 🐛🔨

  • We realized that the search bar was not in focus for quick and easy searching when a new tab page was opened, leading to additional clicks to start your search. We’ve made sure that when a new tab is opened in the browser, or when you’re navigating back to or ending up back at the Home page the search bar for that tab or Home page will be in focus and you can start typing your search with no additional clicks.
  • We identified an issue where browsing history was being deleted when searching, resulting in the page back navigation not working correctly, either taking you to the wrong site or not working at all. We’ve fixed this, so you can successfully navigate forwards or backwards through your browsing history using the navigation buttons.
  • We noticed when tabbing through bookmarks there was an unappealing outline around the bookmark currently in focus. We've updated this to create a more visually appealing design, consistent with Shift's overall aesthetic. Now, bookmarks in focus are not only easier to identify but also align beautifully with the look and feel of Shift.
  • We identified an accessibility issue in our search dropdown where users were unable to navigate through options using keyboard shortcuts (TAB for forward navigation and TAB + SHIFT for backward navigation), and could only select options using a mouse. We've now implemented a fix to enable keyboard navigation in both directions, ensuring a more accessible and user-friendly experience.
  • We discovered an issue where, upon focusing on the omnibox or bookmarks, the topbar buttons would also display a focus ring. This made it challenging to identify which component was truly in focus. We have now resolved this issue by ensuring that only the component currently in focus will display the focus ring, thereby clarifying which element is actively selected.
