How can we support you?

Shift 127.5.0 | Released 2024-10-10

New Things ✨

  • Maps App: A user-friendly navigation tool that lets you choose your preferred map platform or service, providing real-time directions, traffic updates, and points of interest all within the app.
  • Dictionary App: A versatile resource allowing users to search for definitions, synonyms, and encyclopedia entries, making it easy to explore and understand language.

Bugs Fixed 🐛🔨

  • We noticed that our widget placement wasn’t consistent for a few one-off programs. Turns out some widgets weren’t responding to the resizing of the Shift window. We’ve made sure these widgets are positioned under the omnibox so they don’t block other UI elements you may need to access and ensured that they respond to window resizing as well.
  • We noticed that the tab-closing behaviour of Shift was a little off. If you had a lot of open tabs and then started to close them, the tabs would re-size midway through, changing the location of the ‘x’ to close out the tab and making it hard to close many tabs quickly. We’ve fixed this so that the tabs will only resize after you complete your closing actions or move focus from the tab bar.
  • We realized there was a minor display issue with our search dropdown menu. We’ve updated this so it aligns with our intended designs for the look of the menu.
  • We caught some strange behaviour in our search bar when typing domains quickly. Upon clicking enter to search, it would sometimes miss the last character typed, therefore taking the user to the wrong domain, or executing a query (web search) for the partial domain name. We’ve resolved this!
  • We noticed that some secure sites were not showing the correct safety status after the launch of our WebRisk features. We’ve reviewed these conflicts and released a fix to ensure these show correctly.
  • We noticed that when you’re being prompted to update Shift to its newest version that there was a confusing popup occurring as well, asking if you want to ‘Pin Shift to your taskbar’. We’ve removed this popup to avoid confusion.

Other Notable Updates 👀

  • We wanted to make it easier for you to navigate Shift using keyboard shortcuts, so we’ve added shortcuts for ‘Select next tab’ (Ctrl Tab) and ‘Select previous tab’ (Ctrl Shift Tab). Starting on the tab or app that’s currently in focus, the focus will move to the right in a loop of tabs > apps > Home Tab before restarting through the loop again.
  • We’ve added a helpful “Add App” icon to the top-right of your Shift screen to make it easy-as-pie to add new apps to your setup!
  • Font size in Shift’s tabs and apps were appearing slightly larger than industry standard, which meant more text was being cut off. We’ve revised the font size to ensure you have a consistent experience from browser to browser and so you can see as much of your tab as possible to help you navigate your setup.
