If you sell your car to us at your evaluation appointment, our Shift Concierge will process all your paperwork, complete the transaction, and drive your vehicle back to one of our Shift locations, where we will conduct a final inspection and then initiate payment to you.
Final Inspection
The final inspection includes a more detailed evaluation of your car by one of our experienced technicians. This process typically takes 24-48 hours from the time we acquire your car, since our technicians look for any significant damages that may not have been caught at the evaluation appointment. In almost all cases, there are no further issues discovered during the final inspection, but we will notify you and arrange a return if we cannot acquire your car for any reason.
Payment
After your car passes final inspection, you will be notified via email and we will request your bank account information to initiate an ACH transfer. Once we initiate your payment, processing time can take up to 3-7 business days, depending on your bank. If you prefer, we can instead send you a physical check in the mail. At this point, we also submit a "Release of Liability" for your vehicle, which absolves you of anything that may happen to the vehicle between the handover to us and the next registered owner. You can cancel the insurance on your car and disregard any further documentation from the DMV - you are no longer responsible for the car :)
Loan Payoff
If you had an outstanding loan on your car, we will initiate payment to your lender to close out your loan after your car passes final inspection. This will also include any underwater payment you may have paid to us. You will be notified of the initiated payment via email.
In almost all cases, the payment will arrive at the lender within the 10 days that your loan payoff statement was valid for.
If you have a payment due during the 10-day payoff period, or one is immediately coming up and you do not see the loan is paid off, please make the payment. Once the payoff is received, you will be refunded by the lender the overage, and you will not incur any credit issues due to late payment.
