Safe Browsing protection in Shift Browser

  • Updated

Safe Browsing in Shift Browser protects you from malware, phishing, and unsafe downloads. It works by checking the sites you visit against a list of known threats. When Shift finds something risky, it warns you before any harm is done so you can stay in control of your data.

How Safe Browsing works in Shift Browser

Shift uses advanced technology to scan the web for harmful sites. Every time you open a page or try to download a file, Shift checks it against a massive database of threats. We build on Google's technology and add our own extra layers to keep you even safer.

Extra security layers in Shift

  • Real-time warnings: You'll see a clear alert if a site is unsafe or malicious.

  • Virus scanning: Shift scans files against the Avira database to find hidden viruses.

  • Automatic blocking: We stop dangerous downloads before they're ever saved to your computer.

Protection levels in Shift Browser

You can choose how much protection you want. While we recommend keeping the default settings, Shift gives you the power to decide.

Choose your level

  1. Standard protection (Default): This warns you about dangerous sites, downloads, and extensions. It's the best balance of safety and speed.

  2. No protection: This turns off all warnings. We don't recommend this because you won't know if a site or file is malicious.

Even if you see a warning, you can still choose to visit the site or finish the download. It's always your call.

About Standard protection

When you use Shift, your privacy is just as important as your safety. Here's how we keep your identity hidden:

  • Shift uses special privacy servers to hide parts of the web addresses you visit.

  • This stops anyone from seeing both your full web address and your computer's IP address at the same time.

  • If a site looks suspicious, only then is more data sent to check for threats.

Change your Safe Browsing level

  1. Open Shift on your computer.

  2. Click the Quick Settings gear icon.

  3. Select Advanced settings.

  4. In the sidebar, click Privacy and security.

  5. Select Security.

  6. Pick the level you want to use.

Safe Browsing gives you real-time defense without slowing your work down. With these automatic tools, you can browse and explore in Shift with total confidence.
