How to transfer to a Team from an individual account

  • Updated

You can merge individual accounts into one Shift Browser for Teams subscription to simplify billing and license management. This process involves choosing an Admin, purchasing seats in the Account Portal, and inviting members. Shift will then refund any remaining time on individual paid accounts to ensure a smooth transition.

What is Shift for Teams?

Managing a group is easier when everything is in one place. Shift for Teams is a specialized setup for groups that want the full power of the browser with added administrative control. It's built for deep work and collaboration.

When you move to a team account, you get:

  • One simple, consolidated bill for every user.

  • A central Admin to manage licenses and team members.

  • All the premium features of a standard Shift subscription.

How to switch to a Shift for Teams subscription

If your colleagues have their own paid accounts, you can bring them together under one license. Since the Teams dashboard is available through your account portal, you can manage your Team with ease.

  1. Pick your Admin. Choose one person to manage the team. If they don't have a paid account yet, they'll need to upgrade to Advanced first.

  2. Set up the team. In the Account Portal, the Admin should click the Settings icon, then select Teams, and click Invite Your Team.

  3. Buy your seats. Purchase the total number of seats your group needs. Remember that the Admin takes up one seat.

  4. Invite your members. Add the email addresses for your team members. These must match the emails they use for their current Shift accounts.

  5. Accept the invite. Each person will get an email. They just need to select the link in that email to join.

Getting refunds for individual accounts

We want to make sure you don't pay twice. If your team members have already paid for their own Shift accounts, we'll refund the unused time.

You have two options for refunds:

  1. Each member can submit a ticket to Shift Support to let us know they joined your team.

  2. The Admin can email us a list of all member emails along with proof of payment to support@shift.com. This could be a copy of the invoice or the last four digits of the credit card used.

Why move to a team account?

By moving to a team account, you ensure everyone in your organization has the same tools for deep work. It removes the friction of individual expense reports and keeps your billing clean and simple.
