New Things
- Smart Links: A brand-new feature, Smart Links, is now available! Smart Links let links open directly in their associated apps for a faster, more seamless experience. This feature is turned on by default for new installations and can be managed anytime in Advanced Settings. Learn more about Smart Links.
Notable Updates
- Quick Access to “Set as Default Browser”: You can now set Shift as your default browser directly from Quick Settings. The new option appears only when Shift isn’t already your default.
- New Onboarding Success Page: After completing onboarding, you’ll see a new welcome screen with quick options to sync your data immediately or be reminded later — making it easier to start strong with Shift.
- Simplified Installation Experience: The Windows installer has been refreshed with a modern look. The Mac installer also features updated colors to match Shift’s latest design.
- Uninstall Survey Added for Windows Users: Some Windows users will now see an uninstall survey automatically open in their default browser when removing Shift. If no default browser is set, the survey opens in Microsoft Edge. This helps you share feedback more easily and provides valuable insights to improve Shift.
- Persistent Quick Settings Preferences: Your Quick Settings layout now stays exactly as you left it — even after restarting, updating, or signing in on another device.
- Cleaner Layout Editing: Shift now alerts you before removing any hidden apps when exiting Edit Mode, helping prevent duplicates and keeping your setup organized.
- Improved Link Handling Controls: You can now choose whether links open inside Shift or in your default browser. When this setting is enabled, all links open in your system’s default browser, and that window is brought to the front. If Open Links in Apps is also enabled, non-app links open in the default browser while app-specific links open in Shift. When disabled, all links open in Shift.
- New Tab Page Override Setting: A new option gives you control over whether extensions can change the New Tab Page. You can turn this on or off anytime in your extension settings.
- Bookmarks Page Update: The three-dot (kebab) menu on the Bookmarks page has been moved beside the search bar for a cleaner layout and easier access.
- More Predictable Tab Focus: Closing tabs now behaves consistently — focus moves to the next or previous tab in order, and Shift won’t close accidentally when using Cmd + W, to ensure accidental closures are avoided.
