Allowlisting gives you control over which websites Blocker filters. While Blocker automatically prevents ads, trackers, and unwanted content from loading, allowlisting lets you make exceptions, so trusted or essential sites can load everything they need. Use it when you want a particular site to function without restrictions, or when you want to support pages that rely on ad revenue.
What is allowlisting
Allowlisting temporarily disables Blocker's filters for specific sites. It's useful for pages that rely on scripts, embedded content, or ad-supported features that get blocked otherwise. Blocker remembers these sites and won't interfere with their content until you remove them from your allowlist.
Why you might use it
Trusted work tools: Internal dashboards or CRMs may break when tracking scripts are blocked.
Support content creators: Allow ads on your favorite blogs or YouTube channels.
Fix broken sites: Some videos, forms, or interactive elements won't load when blocking is too strict.
Testing and development: Developers can test their own domains without filters.
How to allowlist a site
Follow these steps to manage exclusions right from the Blocker tool panel:
Click the settings icon in the Blocker Panel.
Click Allowed Sites.
Enter the domain name, such as
example.com.Click Add to save your changes.
The site now appears under your Allowlisted Websites list.
Managing Your Allowlisted Sites
You can review or edit your settings anytime:
Click the settings icon in the Blocker Panel.
Click Allowed Sites.
To remove a site, click the trash icon next to it on your allow list.
Once it's removed, Shift immediately resumes filtering out ads and trackers. The list clearly shows every site that has been given full permission to run features on your machine.
How allowlisting affects privacy
When a site is allowlisted, Blocker won't block ads, trackers, or analytics from that domain, meaning the page will load fully, but with less privacy protection. For the best balance, allowlist only the sites you trust and revisit them periodically.
