Shift 144.2.1 | Released 2026-05-06

Notable Updates

  • Image generation in AI Chat: You can now generate images directly within AI Chat conversations. Generated images render inline in assistant responses, can be downloaded, and persist across session reloads.
  • Tab closing behavior: In spaces without a Home tab or Anchor App, closing your last tab now displays a clean "No open tabs" screen with a "+ New Tab" button, removing a previous issue with a "ghost tab," which could cause lost content and tab accumulation over time.
  • Improved the post-onboarding welcome video experience. The "Welcome to Shift!" help article now opens scrolled directly to the main content, so the welcome video is fully visible and no longer cut off by the Zendesk Help Center header.

Bugs Fixed

AI Chat

  • Fixed an issue where pressing a bookmark had no effect when full-screen AI Chat was active. Bookmarks now correctly open in a new tab while AI Chat is in full-screen mode.
  • Fixed a blank webview appearing on startup when the homepage was set to "Shift AI Chat" with the "Open the new tab page" startup option. Shift now correctly launches into the full-screen AI Chat experience as expected.
  • Fixed active tab overlapping the AI Chat Settings dialog on smaller screens. The dialog now correctly renders above all UI elements regardless of screen size.

Tabs and windows

  • Fixed a tab strip styling regression where tabs had incorrect shapes and padding. Tab strip items now display with the correct rounded edges and spacing.
  • Fixed "Open in new window" not functioning across Shift. Pop-up windows triggered via the context menu, Shift+click, or in-app buttons were silently failing.
  • Fixed "Open New App Tab" opening tabs in the wrong tab strip. New app tabs, keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Alt+T / Cmd+Option+T), and "New tab to the right" now all open correctly within the app tab strip.
