New Shift UI: A Step Backward?

Shift is a genius app, and I was genuinely amazed when I first discovered it a few years ago. However, some recent decisions by the developer have left me puzzled.

First, changing the app icon to something so similar to the ChatGPT app icon has been incredibly confusing — I find myself opening the wrong app countless times every day.

Second, what is going on with this new version? The UI is much more difficult to use and manage, and on top of that, it often gets visually mixed up with the standard Chrome browser.

I honestly don’t see the benefit of reinventing the wheel instead of simply refining and improving what was already working so well. I hope they continue to support the legacy version.

    Hey! Thanks for the feedback!

In an effort to create visual difference between the legacy version and new version, we did update the icon, however I can see how the similarity between the black-and-white version and ChatGPT's icon would be confusing.

As for the visuals being similar to Chrome, have you tried the customization features that are available on the new version? You can choose from a variety of templates or fully customize your setup, moving around bars and controls. While it might look like Chrome out of the box, you can now make Shift look like pretty much whatever you'd like by going to Quick Settings > Build your Browser > play around and customize to your heart's content!

If you want some inspiration, keep an eye on the Customization topic here in the community. We're encouraging folks to post their customized setups there for some inspo!
