FIXED: Shift Browser Crashes When Opening Links

Hello, I  love Shift, and have been using it for years. I especially like the new update!

One issue i've been running into today, both on my laptop and my MacMini, is that when opening a link, either a link from my gmail, or a link from my Google Drive, the browser crashes. This has happened multiple times, and is really frustrating! Hope it's an easy fix!

Hi, thanks for bringing this to our attention! We are aware of this issue and have a ticket in with our developers for a fix.

We expect this fix to be in the next release. We'll circle back and post an update here once it's been released!

Thanks Melissa - any idea on timing for the next release? I cannot use Shift Browser for work until this is resolved. I just had the browser crash while I was on a client Google Meeting because i tried to open a link from the chat. Very frustrating.

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for getting back to us. We currently don't have a timeline for when the update will be released. We do have a workaround:

Turning off Smart Linking, to do this, follow the steps below:

    1. Go to Quick Settings > Advanced Setting > Accounts and prefences

    2. Toggle off Smart Links

This should stop the crashes. Please let us know if this is not the case.
