At Shift, we believe in giving you the freedom to choose. That's why Shift isn't set as your default browser automatically. We encourage you to explore Shift and decide for yourself. If you love the Shift experience and are ready to make it your default browser, just follow these simple steps:
Setting Shift as your default browser on Windows
- Open the Shift browser
- Click the gear icon in the top right corner to open Settings.
- In the Settings menu, select “Advanced Settings”
- Find the Default browser section on the left
- Click the “Make default” button
- This will take you to the Windows Default apps settings
- Under “Set defaults for applications”, type "Shift" in the search bar.
- Select Shift and then click on the “Set default” button
- You'll see a checkmark confirming that Shift is now your default browser
Note: If you're using Windows 11, Shift will directly take you to the correct settings page, so you don't need to search for it.
Note: If you prefer, you can customize your experience by setting specific file types or link types to open with Shift or another browser of your choice. This option is available in the same settings area.
