All About Bookmarks in Shift

  • Updated

Bookmarks allow you to save and categorize your most frequently visited web domains, cloud assets, and web applications for instant, single-click access directly from your top menu layout.

Step-by-Step Configuration Guide

1. Add a Bookmark

  1. Navigate to the website you want to save.

  2. Look at the right side of the top address search bar and click the Add Bookmark icon (the star icon).

  3. Type a custom name for the bookmark and select its storage location (e.g., your primary Bookmark Bar or a specific folder).

  4. Click Save.

2. Remove a Bookmark

  1. Locate the bookmark on your top bar or inside a folder.

  2. Right-click the item and select Delete from the context dropdown menu.

3. Create a New Bookmark Folder

  1. Right-click anywhere on an empty space within your top bookmark bar.

  2. Select Add folder from the options list, type a name for your directory, and press Enter.

How to Open the Bookmark Manager

For large-scale curation, you can launch a dedicated management workspace using one of two methods:

  • Method A (From the Workspace Layout): Right-click on any specific bookmark or empty section of your bookmark bar, then select Bookmark Manager from the dropdown list.

  • Method B (From Settings): Click the Quick Settings icon (the gear icon) in the upper-right corner of Shift, then select Bookmarks from the panel menu.

Advanced Data Management inside the Manager

Once inside the main Bookmark Manager interface, you can leverage advanced configuration controls by clicking the More Actions menu (the three vertical dots icon) situated at the top-right of the page:

Organizing and Sorting

  • Manual Reordering: Click, hold, and drag any bookmark or folder to manually slide it into a new position. You can drag standalone bookmarks directly on top of folders to drop them inside.

  • Alphabetical Sorting: Click the three-dot options icon at the top-right of the page and select Sort by name to instantly organize your links.

File Import and Export Paths

If you need to move bookmarks manually between machines or back up your data locally, use these explicit tools:

  • Importing Bookmarks Manually: 1. Click the three-dot options icon at the top-right of the page. 2. Select Import bookmarks from the dropdown menu to trigger your computer's local file window. 3. Select the saved HTML bookmark file that you previously exported from another browser. 4. Click Open to commit the data injection.

  • Exporting Bookmarks Manually: 1. Click the three-dot options icon at the top-right of the page. 2. Select Export bookmarks from the dropdown menu. 3. Provide a file name, select a secure storage location on your local machine, and click Save. This generates a universal HTML backup file compatible with any modern browser.
