How to download a file in Shift Browser

You can download a file in Shift Browser by clicking the download link or right-clicking an item and selecting Save as. Shift handles documents, images, and videos just like a standard browser. Once your download starts, you can track its progress in the downloads tray.

Save files to your computer using Shift Browser

Whether you're grabbing a PDF or a new image, Shift helps you move files from the web to your local folders. It's a familiar process that stays out of your way so you can keep working.

Download a file on your computer

  1. Open Shift on your computer.

  2. Go to the website where your file is located.

  3. To save most files, click the download link. You can also right-click and choose Save as.

  4. To save images, right-click the image and select Save image as.

  5. To save videos, click the Download button on the site. If you don't see one, right-click the video and select Save as.

  6. To save PDFs, right-click the link and choose Save link as.

If your computer asks where to put the file, pick a folder and click Save. Some sites don't allow downloads, so if you don't see these options, the owner may have turned them off.

Manage your downloads in Shift Browser

After you start a download, a tray will open to show you the progress. You don't have to guess when it's done. When the progress bar disappears, your file is ready.

Working with the downloads tray

  • Open a file: Click the file name in the tray or select Open.

  • Find the file: Click the folder icon next to the file to see where it lives on your computer.

  • View recent items: Click the Downloads icon in your top bar.

Viewing all downloads

  1. Click the Downloads icon and select Show all downloads.

  2. You can also go to Settings and then click Downloads.

  3. To remove a file from your list, click the X next to it.
