How to Manage Tabs in Shift Browser

You can manage tabs in Shift Browser by using the plus icon, right-clicking for specialized menus, or using keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl + T. These tools help you stay in control so your workflow stays organized. Shift makes it easy to open, pin, or restore your work in seconds.

Master Your Tabs in Shift Browser

Shift helps you move quickly. Whether you're a power user or just getting started, these steps will keep you in your flow

Open a new tab

  • Click method: Select the New tab icon (plus symbol).

  • Keyboard shortcut:

    • Windows: Press Ctrl + T
    • Mac: Press Cmd + T 

Open a link in a new tab

  • Windows: Hold Ctrl and click a link.

  • Mac: Hold Cmd and click a link.

This opens the link in a new tab without closing your current one.

Open a new window

  • Quick Settings:

    1. Click the gear icon to open Quick Settings.

    2. Under Tabs, select New window.

  • Keyboard shortcut:

    • Windows: Press Ctrl + N
    • Mac: Press Cmd + N

Close and Organize Tabs in Shift Browser

Cleaning up your workspace is simple. Shift gives you several ways to clear out the clutter.

Close a tab

There are a few different ways to close tabs in Shift:

  • Click method: Click the X on the tab.

  • Keyboard shortcut:

    • Windows: Press Ctrl + W to close the current tab you are using
    • Mac: Press Cmd + W
  • Right-click options:

    • Close tab: closes the selected tab

    • Close tabs to the right: closes all tabs to the right of the selected tab

    • Close all tabs: closes all open tabs in that window

Tip: Using Close tabs to the right or Close all tabs can be helpful if you have many tabs open and want to clean things up quickly.

Restore a recently closed tab

  • Keyboard shortcut:

    • Windows: Press Ctrl + Shift + T to restore (open back up) recently closed tabs
    • Mac: Press Cmd + Shift + T

Pin and unpin tabs

Pin important tabs to keep them visible and prevent accidental closure.

  • Pin: Right-click a tab and select Pin tab. The tab shrinks and locks to the left side.

  • Unpin: Right-click a pinned tab and select Unpin tab. It returns to normal size and can be moved or closed.

Move a tab to a new window

  • Right-click a tab and select Move tab to new window.

  • Note: If it’s the only tab in the window, this option is disabled.

Close a window

Before closing a window in Shift, make sure all tabs are closed.

  • Click method: Select the X in the top corner of the window.

Hold your mouse over any tab. You'll see a small preview of the site and the title. This helps you find the right page without clicking through every tab.
