How to add a Custom App to your Shift setup

  • Updated

You can add any website or web tool to Shift Browser by using the Add Custom App feature. This lets you put your unique workflow tools directly into your setup. Just enter the URL and name to create a specialized app that lives inside your Space(s).

How to add a Custom App

If a specific tool isn't in our global directory, you can build it yourself in seconds. This specialized app lives in your setup just like a standard integration.

  1. Click the Add App icon Add App.svg to open the App Library.

  2. Select Add Custom App in the top-right corner of the page.

  3. Enter the App Name and a nickname in the Account Name field. This nickname appears when you hover over the icon.

  4. Paste the full App URL for the webpage you want to add.

  5. Upload a logo icon or let Shift fetch one automatically from the URL.

  6. Choose which Spaces should feature this app by setting up app shortcuts.

  7. Click Add Custom App to save your new tool to your sidebar.

Request a global app integration

We're always expanding our library to include the tools you use most. When you create a custom app, you can help the whole community by suggesting it for everyone.

Check the box that says Request to add custom app to global directory before you save. Our team reviews these requests to see which tools we should officially support next. While this doesn't happen instantly, it's the best way to let us know what you need.

Manage your custom app

Once your app's added, it's a permanent part of your setup. You can move it, pin it, or delete it just like any other app in Shift. If you need to make changes to your existing apps, you can review the guide on adding and editing apps in Shift.

Shift's built to adapt to you. Whether it's a niche project tool or a favorite news site, your custom apps ensure you never have to leave your focused work environment.
