Incognito mode in Shift Browser allows you to browse the web privately without saving your history, cookies, or site data to your device. This feature keeps your activity isolated during your session and automatically clears it once the window is closed. It’s the best way to maintain local privacy.
What is Incognito mode?
Incognito mode creates a temporary new window where your actions aren't tracked locally. It’s perfect for when you need to keep your browsing private or avoid leaving digital traces on your computer.
Private history: Websites you visit won’t appear in your browsing history.
Temporary cookies: Cookies and site data are cleared as soon as you close the window.
Isolated sessions: Your regular logins and cache aren't shared with the Incognito window.
How Incognito works with your regular browsing session
Incognito mode creates a separate path that doesn't talk to your regular browsing data. While it deletes your history and cookies when finished, anything you intentionally save will stay. For example, any downloads or bookmarks you create while in Incognito will remain on your computer after you close the window.
You can run a regular Shift session and an Incognito session at the same time. This is helpful if you want to stay logged into your main accounts while testing how a website looks to a new visitor.
Open Incognito mode in Shift Browser
You can jump into a private session quickly using keyboard shortcuts.
Press Ctrl + Shift + N if you're using Windows.
Press Command + Shift + N if you're on a Mac.
Browse as you normally would in the new window that appears.
Close all Incognito windows to end your session and delete your local data.
Important privacy reminders
While Incognito mode stops Shift from saving your data locally, it doesn't make you invisible on the web. Your activity is still visible to the websites you visit, your internet service provider, and your employer if you're on a work network.
Using Incognito mode is a simple way to browse privately without leaving a trace in your local history. Just open a window and you're ready to go.
