When you need to browse privately, Shift offers an Incognito Mode that keeps your browsing history, cookies, and other data isolated during your session and removes them once the session ends. Here’s how to use it.
What is Incognito Mode?
Incognito Mode allows you to:
- Browse without saving history: Websites you visit won’t be stored in your browsing history.
- Avoid saving cookies: Cookies and site data are cleared once you close the Incognito window.
- Enhanced privacy: Useful for keeping your browsing private or avoiding leaving traces of what you’ve done online on your device.
How to Open Incognito Mode in Shift
Using a Keyboard Shortcut:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows) or Command + Shift + N (Mac) to instantly open an Incognito window
Once in Incognito Mode, you can browse normally, knowing your activity won’t be saved. Just remember to close out of all Incognito windows to close your current session and trigger the deletion of your browsing history, cookies, and other data.
Key Things to Remember
- Incognito Mode only prevents local tracking—your browsing activity is still visible to the websites you visit, your internet provider, and any networks you’re connected to.
- Downloaded files and bookmarks will still be saved even after closing the Incognito window.
With Incognito Mode, you can browse privately without leaving a trace in your local history. Just open an Incognito window, and you’re ready to go!
