How to use location services

  • Updated

You can enable location services in Shift Browser by toggling the location permissions in your computer's system settings and then granting access via the Site Information icon in the search bar. This allows you to use GeoLocation for maps, local browsing, and streaming services directly inside your workspace.

How location services improve your flow

Shift Browser is built to simplify your online life by adapting to your needs. By enabling GeoLocation, you can plan trips on Google Maps, find local search results, and watch regional content on Netflix easily.

How to use location services on Mac

To get your location working on a Mac, you'll need to update both your system and your browser settings.

  1. Click the Apple menu and select System Settings.

  2. Choose Privacy & Security from the left sidebar.

  3. Click on Location Services.

  4. Check the box next to Shift Browser to allow access.

  5. Open a website in Shift that needs your location.

  6. Select the Site Information icon View site information.svg in the main search bar.

  7. Click Site Settings, find Location, and turn it ON for that specific site.

How to use location services on Windows

Windows users can follow a similar two-part process to ensure their apps can sense their location.

  1. Select the Start icon in your taskbar and type Settings.

  2. Open the Settings app on your computer.

  3. Click on Privacy & security and then select Location.

  4. Ensure the toggle for Let apps access your location is enabled.

  5. Go to your desired website within the Shift Browser.

  6. Select the Site Information icon View site information.svg in the main search bar.

  7. Click Site Settings and toggle Location to ON.

Managing your privacy

We believe privacy is a baseline expectation. You're always in control of which sites can see where you are. If you don't want a site to track your location anymore, you can use the Site Information icon to revoke access at any time. Shift respects the global permissions you set on your Mac or Windows device.
