How to access the Custom Layout setting in Shift Browser

  • Updated

You can access the Custom Layout setting in Shift Browser by clicking the gear icon to open Quick Settings and selecting Build your Browser. This opens the Builder, a native integration that lets you drag and drop apps, bars, and controls to design your perfect workspace.

Open the Builder

The Builder is the specialized app where you orchestrate your entire digital environment. It lives inside your Space and gives you total control over the UI.

  1. Click the gear icon Quick Settings.svg to open Quick Settings.
  2. Select the Build Your Browser button.

  3. Use the menu to toggle between Bars, Controls, and Apps.

Note: If you’ve removed everything from your Space, a Safety Bar will appear when you hover at the top of your screen. From there, click Build Your Browser to start rebuilding. Learn more: Help! I Removed Everything from Shift Browser?!

What you can do inside the Custom Layout panel

The Builder isn't just a settings menu: it's a creative tool. It's designed to help Shift adapt to you, not the other way around. Once it's open, you can:

  • Pick a Template: Choose a preset modular theme to reset your setup instantly.

  • Rearrange your workspace: Move sidebars to the left, right, or bottom of your screen.

  • Organize Integrated Apps: Drag your favorite apps into specific bars or sections.

  • Control your tools: Add or remove buttons like the reload icon, home button, or Shift AI.

Make Shift your own

Your layout should match your rhythm. Whether you're a minimalist who wants a clean screen or a power user who needs every tool in sight, the Custom Layout settings make it happen. You can redesign your Space anytime your needs evolve.
