Basic Troubleshooting Steps for Shift

  • Updated

Are you experiencing performance slowness, crashing, freezing, blank screens, or a general issue within your browser? Our core troubleshooting steps can help resolve most common hiccups instantly. Use the guide below to get your workspace back on track or to find specialized resources for your specific issue.

Top Basic Troubleshooting Tips

1. Perform a Hard Refresh

As the name suggests, this fully reloads the entire application framework and clears temporary glitches.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + R (Mac) on your keyboard to execute a hard refresh.

2. Reload an Inactive Email Account

If a specific inbox is frozen or showing a blank screen, you can force it to reconnect to its server.

  • Click into the problematic email tab, then double-click the primary email icon located in your sidebar workspace.

3. Use the App Instance Swapping Trick

If a specific web app (such as Facebook, WhatsApp, or Microsoft Teams) is behaving incorrectly or failing to load data:

  1. Add a second instance of that exact same app to your Shift setup. Do not delete the original instance yet.

  2. Log into this newly added second instance to ensure it works correctly.

  3. Once verified, go ahead and delete the original instance that was giving you issues.

4. Reset Your App Data

Resetting your local database cache often resolves persistent, deep-seated browser bugs. Check out our comprehensive step-by-step instructions, categorized by your machine's operating system below:

  1. For Mac
  2. For Windows
