How to Create Your Shift Account

While you can use Shift as a guest without registering, creating a dedicated Shift Account unlocks the full power of the browser.

System Requirements & Availability

Before downloading, ensure your machine meets our core performance standards:

  • Supported OS: Windows (Windows 10 and above) and macOS. Shift does not currently support Chrome OS, mobile devices, tablets, or laptops running in "tablet" mode.

  • Hardware Recommendation: We recommend a minimum of 8 GB of RAM for Shift to run smoothly, though 16 GB of RAM is ideal for heavy multitasking.

Step-by-Step: Creating Your Account

Path A: You are launching Shift for the very first time

Simply follow the interactive, on-screen prompts during your initial setup launch. You will be prompted to create an account or sign in as part of the standard onboarding flow.

Path B: You are already inside the browser as a guest

If you bypassed the initial setup or need to create a new profile from your active window, follow these steps:

  1. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the browser to open Quick Settings.

  2. Click Advanced Settings at the bottom of the panel.

  3. Select Accounts and Preferences from the left sidebar.

  4. Click Sign In, then select Create an account.

Important Account Details

  • Enabling Sync: Upon creating your account, a pop-up window will ask if you want to turn on Sync. While Sync is entirely optional, you must have a registered Shift Account to use it.

  • The Web Portal vs. The Browser: Creating an account online via our web-based Account Portal sets up your profile in our system, but it does not automatically log you into the desktop software. Make sure you use those same credentials to sign directly into the Shift Browser application.

  • Premium Upgrades: If you choose to upgrade to a paid subscription, your premium tier will be permanently tied to the specific email address you used to create this primary account.

  • Legal Agreements: During account creation, you will be asked to review and accept our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, and End User License Agreement (EULA).
