Managing Shift's 'Suggest apps to install' setting

  • Updated

The 'Suggest apps to install' setting helps you discover and add new apps to Shift Browser as you go. When you click a link for an app you haven't added yet, Shift will offer to install it for you. This keeps your workspace flexible and ready for any tool.

What ‘Suggest apps to install’ does in Shift

When this setting's active, Shift detects when you click a link associated with a platform in our App Library. If that app isn't already in your setup, a dialog box will appear. You can then choose to install the app or simply open the link in a standard tab.

This specialized feature makes it easy to build your setup on the fly. You'll add apps only as the need arises, keeping your setup clean and focused on your current projects.

Let's look at a real work example of how this works. If a teammate shares an Asana link with you, Shift will recognize you're missing that app from your setup. You'll see a pop-up asking if you'd like to add the Asana app and open the link there for a more focused experience.

Managing ‘Suggest apps to install’

You can turn these app recommendations on or off at any time. Follow these steps to adjust your preferences:

  2. Select ‘Advanced Settings’.

  3. Navigate to ‘Accounts and Preferences’ along the sidebar.

  4. Toggle 'Suggest Apps to install' to your preferred position.

Maximize your flow with Smart Links

This setting works best when used with Smart Links (i.e. 'Open links in app' setting). This features controls how links behave across your apps. You can learn more about Smart Links and opening links in apps to create a truly seamless workflow.

By combining these tools, you're building a workflow that adapts to you, rather than the other way around. Trust your setup to suggest the right tools at the right time.
