Use the Intelligent Omnipill for Instant AI Actions in Shift

  • Updated

The Intelligent Omnipill in Shift Browser is a smart suggestion tool that lives inside your search bar. It offers a one-click AI action tailored to the specific page you're viewing. Whether you're summarizing a video or analyzing a job post, the Omnipill launches a native integration with AI Chat to give you instant answers without any typing.

What is the Intelligent Omnipill?

The Intelligent Omnipill is a context-aware button that appears in the right side of the Intelligent Omnibox (your search bar). It reads the page you’re on and suggests a helpful task.

When you click it, it triggers AI Chat

For example:

  • On a Wikipedia article, the pill might say "Summarize"
  • On a YouTube video, it might say "Summarize video"
  • On a product or sales page, it might say "Product evaluation"
  • On a recipe page, it might suggest extracting the recipe
  • On a job posting, it might offer to analyze the listing
  • On a GitHub pull request, it might suggest reviewing the code changes

How to Use the Omnipill in Shift Browser

Using this feature is simple and won't break your flow. Shift does the heavy lifting in the background.

  1. Browse naturally: Visit any website. Shift will scan the page to see if there's a helpful action.
  2. Watch for the pill: If Shift recognizes the page, a small pill-shaped button appears in your search bar.
  3. Click on the pill: Your AI Chat will open in the sidebar with a ready-made prompt.

Note: If you don't need it, hover over the pill and click the "X." It won't appear again on that page unless you reload.

Managing the Intelligent Omnibox Settings

You're always in control of your workspace. If you want to turn the Omnipill off, you can do it in seconds.

  1. Click the Quick Settings gear icon
  2. Find the Intelligent Omnibox section and click the slider icon next to it.
  3. Toggle the Intelligent Omnipills switch to off.

If you turn it off, Shift will stop scanning pages for suggestions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Omnipill slow down my browsing?

No. The page scanning is very light. It won't affect your speed or how fast pages load.

Do I need AI Chat enabled?

Yes. The Omnipill is a shortcut to AI Chat. Since it's a native integration, AI Chat needs to be active for the pill to work.

Why don't I see a pill on every site?

The Omnipill only shows up on supported page types like recipes, news, or products. If you're on a blank tab or a private page, it'll stay hidden.

Can I ignore a suggestion?

Of course. You can just keep browsing, or click the "X" to dismiss it. Shift won't show you another suggestion on that same page until you navigate away and come back.
