Migrate from the previous version of Shift, v9/Legacy, to Shift Browser before September 30, 2026, to avoid interruption.
Why Shift v9 is retiring
Shift v9/Legacy is reaching its official end-of-life on September 30, 2026. With our new version ready to go, core updates for Shift v9 have slowed, which means security patches, speed enhancements, and bug fixes are no longer being prioritized for this older version. Continuing to use Shift v9 could expose you to potential performance issues.
Upgrading to Shift Browser ensures you stay protected on the latest web engine while unlocking enhanced customization, built-in AI capabilities, while maintaining all the email management features that you love.
What you need to do before September 30, 2026
To prevent any interruption to your daily workflow, complete your migration before the September 30 deadline.
Steps to migrate
We recommend reviewing our full migration article here, as this has more detailed information on the migration process.
Check your version: Ensure Shift v9/Legacy is running on version 9.6.3 or higher.
Open Shift v9: Keep the application running on your desktop during migration.
Start migration: Open Quick Settings in Shift v9 and click Let's Go. *If you don't see the "Let's Go" prompt in Quick Settings we recommend reaching out to Shift Support for assistance.
Install Shift Browser: Follow the prompts to download and install the new version of Shift.
Sign in: Log into Shift Browser using your existing Shift login credentials (the primary Google or Microsoft email linked to your account).
Confirm setup: Review imported Spaces, apps, and set a template to complete setup.
What happens on the sunset date
On September 30, 2026, Shift v9 will undergo a full shutdown.
Application access: Shift v9 will no longer function.
Launch screen: Opening Shift v9 after September 30 will trigger a prompt notifying you that the version is no longer supported or available, along with a direct link to migrate to Shift Browser.
Data safety: Your underlying setup—including primary email logins, workspaces, apps, and bookmarks—remains linked to your account so you can transition to Shift Browser seamlessly, even after sunset.
Please note that if you have an active, paid Advanced subscription to Shift this will automatically transfer over to the new version. If you would like to discontinue your Advanced subscription, you will need to cancel your subscription. Refraining from migrating has no impact on the status of your subscription.
Tips for migrating
Keep v9 installed until complete: Do not manually delete Shift v9 until you have logged into Shift Browser and confirmed your layout and Spaces are loaded successfully.
Re-authenticate apps: Because Shift Browser installs as a fresh, standalone application, you will need to log back into individual web apps and email accounts once migration completes.
Re-run migration if needed: If you make changes in Shift v9 before September 30, you can uninstall Shift Browser, clear cache data, and re-run the migration prompt in v9 to bring over any last changes.
