Shift Privacy Policy FAQ

  • Updated

Your privacy is our priority. Shift Browser doesn't sell your personal data, and we don't access the private contents of your emails, calendars, or files. We're committed to transparency, so we've answered your top questions about how Shift protects your information and manages data.

Does Shift Browser sell my data?

No. Shift doesn't sell, rent, or trade your personal or anonymous data to third parties. We use a small, trusted group of third-party service providers to help us run our products and services. You can view more information on our Third-Party relationships in our Terms and Conditions under section 1.2 and section 10.

What data does Shift Browser store?

Shift servers only collect essential data to keep the application running smoothly. We collect certain Application Data and Personal Data to improve your experience and provide support.

Here is what we collect and why:

  • Application Data: This includes your IP address, geolocation data, browser type, OS version, and usage statistics. We use this to improve the software, provide personalized content, and conduct product research.

  • Personal Data: This includes information you provide directly, like your name, email, or billing details. We only use this for lawful purposes, such as fulfilling subscriptions, verifying accounts, or providing technical support.

How does Shift Browser handle my private content?

It’s important to know that Shift doesn't see your private information. When you add an account, we use OAuth authentication, which is a secure mechanism that links your accounts without giving Shift access to your passwords.

  • Local Storage: Information from your email or drive accounts stays on your computer. It isn't transmitted to our servers.

  • Encrypted Passwords: If you save account passwords, they’re encrypted, Shift can't view them.

  • Imported Data: While Shift might import browser settings like bookmarks or history, this data stays local to your machine. We don't have access to it.

Can I opt out of data processing?

We process data based on legitimate interests, such as keeping the software stable and providing support. While you can't opt out of essential data processing, you have rights under applicable privacy laws.

You can contact us at privacy@shift.com to:

  1. Access or receive your personal data.

  2. Correct any inaccurate information we hold.

  3. Request erasure of your personal data where applicable.

  4. Object to the processing of your data for specific purposes, like direct marketing.

Note: If you use AI-assisted features, we'll need your unique AI Chat Client ID from your AI Chat settings menu to help you retrieve or delete data shared with our third-party AI providers.

Does Shift Browser monitor my activity?

Shift tracks limited application data to help us improve the software and resolve technical issues. We do not track what happens inside the apps or websites you add to your setup. Your private workflows and content stay private.

Is my data shared with the apps I add to Shift?

No. Shift acts as a container for your applications. We don't share your private data with the apps you use, and those apps don't share your private data with us. They interact with you directly, just as they would in a standard web browser.

How does Shift handle account passwords?

If you choose to save passwords in Shift Browser, they are encrypted with industry-standard technology. Shift cannot view or access your passwords. You're the only one with access, ensuring that your account credentials remain secure.

Are there different data policies for Shift AI?

Shift AI is designed to be transparent and optional. When you use AI-assisted features, we transmit your queries to our third-party AI providers to generate responses. We maintain strict internal policies to ensure this data is handled securely, and you can always turn these features off in your settings.

Where can I find more information?
