Check the version
Here’s how to check which version of Shift you’re using or if an update is available:
- Click the gear icon in the top-right corner to open Quick Settings.
- At the bottom of the Quick Settings panel, click Advanced Settings. This will open a full-screen settings page.
- Select the About Shift tab in the sidebar.
- On this page, you’ll see your current version of Shift and whether it’s up to date.

Update Shift
Shift automatically checks for updates in the background. If an update is available, you’ll see an Update label next to the gear icon in Quick Settings. Follow these steps to update:
If the Update Label is Present:
- Click the Update label next to the gear icon. This will open the About Shift tab in Advanced Settings.
- The update will run automatically. Once it’s done, a Relaunch button will appear beside the version number.
- Click Relaunch to finalize the update. Shift will close and reopen with the newest version.
If the Update Label is Not Present:
- Click the Search bar and type chrome://settings/help, then press Enter. This will check for updates.
- The About Shift tab in Advanced Settings will open, and if an update is available, a Relaunch button will appear beside the version number.
- Click Relaunch to finalize the update. Shift will close and reopen with the newest version.
