All about notification badges

  • Updated

You can customize notification badges in Shift Browser by right-clicking any Space or App to toggle unread counts on or off. These red dots help you track unread messages from a bird's eye view. Shift gives you total control over which apps contribute to your total notification count.

Customizing your view in Shift Browser

Notification badges are the small red numbers or dots you see beside your Spaces or Apps. A badge on a Space shows the total unread items for everything inside that specific area. It's a great way to stay organized, but sometimes you need a cleaner look to stay in your flow.

How to manage badges for a Space

If you don't want to see a total unread count for an entire Space, you can hide it easily. Follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on the Space icon,

  2. Check or uncheck the Show Space Unread Badge option.

How to manage badges for specific apps

Shift lets you pick which apps show notifications.

  1. Right-click on the App icon,

  2. Check or uncheck Show Unread App Badge to turn on or off.

  3. If you want this app’s unread count to add to the total for the Space, check off Include in Space Unread Badge.

Note: This change only applies to the specific app you've selected. If you've added the same app to a different Space, you'll need to adjust the settings there as well.

Why use badges in Shift?

Badges are designed to keep you informed without making you click through every Space. Notification badges on Spaces can serve as a quick pulse check for what might need your attention in that Space. By customizing these, you can ensure you only see the alerts that actually matter to your deep work.
