The Intelligent Omnibox in Shift Browser instantly ranks your search results based on your real-time intent so you can work faster. It uses smart detection to figure out if you want to launch a website, run a standard web search, or open a direct session with Shift AI.
**Beta Notice: Shift AI is a specialized app built directly into your workflow. It's currently out for a Beta group and might not be available to all users just yet.
How Shift Browser decides what shows first
- It looks for a Top Suggestion that is a perfect match.
- It uses intent detection to see if you're asking a question or just searching.
Top Suggestion matches
Shift can place a single result at the very top when it's sure it's the best match for you. These matches come from your history, bookmarks, or sites you visit often. If a result is a clear winner, it appears above everything else.
Confidence thresholds
Shift only shows a Top Suggestion when it meets a high confidence level. This keeps your results accurate. If there isn't a perfect match, Shift skips this step and ranks results by your intent instead.
Using the Shift AI shortcut in Shift Browser
The default way to engage Shift AI is with a quick keyboard shortcut. This native integration lives inside your Space, so you don't have to switch tabs or break your deep work focus.
- Start typing your query into the omnibox.
- Look for the Ask AI [Tab] label to appear next to your text.
- Watch for the label to appear, which means Shift has successfully detected a question.
- Press the Tab key to launch your AI chat window instantly.
Handling short or unclear queries in Shift Browser
Sometimes a query is too short for Shift to know your intent. If you type one word, Shift defaults to search behavior. The Ask AI shortcut will stay visible, but it won't shimmer. You can still press Tab if you want to use the AI.
Helpful extra feature
Shift also includes inline autocomplete to save you time. If you type "insta," Shift might finish the word "instagram.com" for you. You can press Enter to accept it or keep typing to ignore it.
