Image generation with Shift AI

Shift AI now supports image generation directly in your chat. You can create, download, and refine AI-generated images without ever breaking your focus or leaving the conversation.

Generate an Image

To create an image from scratch:

  1. Open an AI Chat in Shift (via your sidebar or using the Cmd + . / Ctrl + . shortcut).

  2. Enter a descriptive text prompt explaining what you want to see.

  3. Press Enter or click Send.

Shift AI will generate and render the image directly within your chat window.

  • Example prompts to try:

    • “Create a futuristic city skyline at sunset.”

    • “Generate a watercolor painting of a mountain landscape.”

    • “Design a minimalist logo for a coffee shop.”

Download an Image

Once your image is generated, you can save it directly to your device for use in presentations, documents, social media, or design projects.

  • Simply click the Download button located directly below the generated image inside the chat window.

Edit an Existing Prompt 

If you like the concept but want to tweak the result, you can edit your previous prompt.

  1. Hover over your original text prompt and click Edit.

  2. Update your text and click Resubmit.

Note: Editing a prompt will remove the previously generated image and replace it with the new result. This is ideal for fine-tuning specific details, such as:

  • Changing colors or artistic styles

  • Adding or removing objects from the frame

  • Tweaking lighting and composition details

Generate Variations with New Prompts

If you want to keep your original image but explore a different direction, don't edit your previous prompt. Instead, submit a completely new prompt right below it.

Because Shift AI is context-aware, your new prompt can build on previous ideas, allowing you to iterate and explore different versions without losing your earlier results.

  • First prompt: “A modern workspace with plants”

  • Second prompt: “The same workspace at night with neon lighting”

 

Tips for Better Results

  • Be Specific: Describe the subject, background, and overall atmosphere.

  • Include Style References: Use keywords like "photorealistic", "cartoon", "oil painting", or "vector art".

  • Direct the Lighting: Mention details like "cinematic lighting", "golden hour", or "moody shadows".

  • Iterate Slowly: Make small text adjustments one at a time to zero in on your perfect design much faster.
