You're about to supercharge your workflow. The all-new Shift Browser lets you create dedicated, distraction-free environments for every project. Follow this guide to perfectly set up your Spaces, apps, and windows for maximum, frustration-free efficiency.
1. Connect your email to a Space
It's easy to keep your accounts separate and organized when you dedicate an email app to each Space. Don't worry, the setup is quick. Every inbox functions as a native integration that lives inside your Space, making it completely different from a standard, cluttered browser tab.
- Click the plus icon (+) on your setup.
- Select Add Space and give it a clear name (e.g., "Marketing" or "Personal").
- Inside that new Space, click the Plus icon (+) again and select Add App.
- Search for your email provider (like Gmail or Outlook) and click Add.
- To make this email your Space's landing page, right-click the app icon and select Set Anchored App.
- Now, when you double-click the Space, it'll open your email inbox directly.
2. App vs. Custom App: What's the difference?
Shift gives you two powerful ways to add the tools you use every day:
Apps: These are found in the App Library. They're optimized for Shift and provide the best support for notifications and multi-account stacking.
Custom Apps: If a tool isn't in our library, you can still add any website. Just select Add Custom App and paste the URL.
How to add apps
- Click on the add app or plus icon in your setup
You can add apps to multiple bars in Shift, but remember: if you switch Templates later, your apps will move to the primary app space on your new template.
3. Multitask with multiple Shift windows
You can open new Shift windows to view several Spaces or projects simultaneously. It's a game-changer for deep focus.
Quick ways to open a window
- Right-click the Shift icon and select New Window
- Use the shortcut Cmd + N (Mac) or Ctrl + N (Windows).
Important: Your open tabs don't sync across different windows. Don't close a window if it contains tabs you want to keep; they'll be permanently lost once that window is closed.
4. Browse privately with Incognito Mode
To browse the web without saving your history or cookies, you've got a few options:
- Click the Quick Settings icon (the gear).
- Select New Incognito Window.
- Use the shortcut Cmd + Shift + N (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows).
- Right-click the icon in your taskbar and select Incognito Window.
