If the AI Chat native integration isn't showing up or behaving as you expect, you can quickly fix most issues by checking your settings, internet connection, or context chips. Upgrading to the latest version of Shift ensures you get all the newest browser features.

**Beta Notice: Shift AI is a specialized app built directly into your workflow. It's currently out for a Beta group and might not be available to all users just yet. 
 

Fix a missing Shift AI icon in Shift Browser

If you don't see the Shift AI icon next to your omnibox, the specialized app might be turned off. This tool integrates directly into your workspace sidebar to keep you in your flow. You can turn it back on in just a few steps: 

1. Open Quick Settings in Shift. 
2. Scroll down to find the Shift AI section. 
3. Toggle the switch to enable Shift AI. 

Note: Verify your browser is fully up to date, since older versions won't have these options

Fix missing page or text context in Shift Browser

Shift AI lives inside your Space and uses "context chips" to see what you're looking at. If the AI doesn't seem to know what's on your screen, check the input area for chips.

If the context page chip is missing

Shift AI automatically grabs context when you open it from a website. If you open it from a blank new tab, it won't have a site to reference. To fix this, make sure you're on the website you want to discuss before you click the icon.

If the selected text chip is missing

If you highlighted text but it didn't appear in the chat, try highlighting it again. Clicking elsewhere on the page can sometimes clear your selection. You'll see a small bubble in the chat box when Shift successfully grabs your text.

Understand Shift AI layouts in Shift Browser

Shift AI changes its look based on how you open it. This isn't a bug: it's designed to stay out of your way.

• Side Panel: Opens when you're on a website so you can chat and browse at the same time.
• Full Screen: Opens when you're on a new tab or when you click the Maximize button.

If you want a fresh, full-screen chat without any site context, hold Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) and click the Shift AI icon. This opens a dedicated tab for your chat that lives in the sidebar.

Quick reset steps for Shift AI

If the AI Chat feature feels stuck, these steps fix almost every common glitch: 

1. Click Try again in the chat window. 
2. Start a New Chat to refresh the session. 
3. Close and reopen the sidebar panel. 
4. Quit Shift completely. 
5. Close any lingering instances of Shift in your system's Task Manager or Activity Monitor. 
6. Open Shift again to complete the reset.

• Whether you were on a new tab or a website,
• The exact error message (a screenshot helps).
