If you have multiple independent PDF documents that you need to combine into a single file, you can execute this directly within Shift using our integrated PDF tool. Follow the step-by-step instructions below to combine your files and customize their page sequence.
How to Merge PDF Files
Open Shift and launch the PDF app from your sidebar layout.
Click on Merge from the left-hand application menu.

Upload your source documents using one of two methods:
Click the Choose files button to browse your computer's local directories, select your files, and click Open.
Alternatively, select the files from your desktop and drag and drop them directly into the highlighted upload zone.
If you realize you missed a document after the initial import, click the Add PDF button to pull in additional files.

Review and finalize your document using the top-right toolbar controls:
Save: Stores the completed, merged document within the My PDFs section of the app for immediate access later.
Print: Generates a system print queue command.
Download: Exports the unified file directly to your local computer storage.
How to Reorder Individual Pages
You do not have to accept the default page ordering of your uploaded files. The app allows you to completely customize the chronological flow of your final document:
Visual Thumbnails: On the workspace screen immediately following your upload, the app will generate a grid view displaying individual page thumbnails of the combined document.
Drag-and-Drop Ordering: To adjust the flow, simply click and hold any page thumbnail, then drag it into your preferred slot. This can be done to reorder pages within a single source file, or to slide pages from one document into the middle of another.
Final Check: Ensure your thumbnails are arranged in your exact desired sequence before clicking Save or Download to avoid needing to restart the compilation process.
