You can tailor Shift Browser to your unique needs by adjusting the built-in Accessibility settings. These tools help make your browsing experience more comfortable and inclusive, ensuring that Shift works for everyone regardless of how you prefer to navigate the web.

How to find accessibility settings in Shift Browser

Follow these steps to customize your Shift Browser experience:

  1. Click the Quick Settings icon Quick Settings.svg in your browser.

  2. Select Advanced Settings at the bottom of the menu.

  3. Click the Accessibility category in the sidebar to open your configuration options.

What you’ll find in accessibility settings

Shift Browser includes several tools to help you navigate and consume content more effectively. You can turn each feature on or off using the toggle switch next to each option.

  • Live caption: Shift Browser creates automatic captions for supported languages. You can add languages, set a default, or hide profanity once you toggle this ON.

  • Live translate: This feature automatically translates your live captions. Just select your target language after toggling the setting ON.

  • Caption preferences: Customize the look of your captions here. You can change the font size, background color, or opacity to make text easier to read.

  • Focused object highlight: Toggle this to show a quick highlight on the object you're currently focused on.

  • Caret browsing: Navigate pages using a text cursor by pressing F7.

  • Image descriptions: If an image lacks a description, Shift Browser can ask Google to provide one.

  • Swipe gestures: Use a simple swipe gesture to move back and forth between pages on a single tab.

  • Add accessibility features: Click this to visit the Chrome Web Store and find specialized extensions that make Shift Browser work better for you.

Troubleshooting captions

If Live caption or Live translate doesn't start after you toggle it, go to Caption Preferences. This opens a popup where you can manually turn them on and refine your settings in your computer system.
